Abstract. To ensure traffic flow on urban expressway running safely and efficiently and perfect the designing standard of interchange spacing, it is necessary to study the length of acceleration and deceleration lane on urban expressway. Based on the vehicles' running characteristics, the acceleration lane was divided into three sections.. Prior research has revealed the safety importance of acceleration and deceleration lane lengths. A recent research report, entitled "Statistical Models of Accidents on Interchange Ramps and Speed-Change Lanes," documents the development of models relating accidents to ramp characteristics. This feature utilizes the information in this report to.

On freeways and some major streets, the speed change between the mainlanes and the adjacent streets can be substantial and cause stop-and-go traffic and more collisions for the main vehicle flow. Dedicated acceleration lanes allow cars that have turned onto the main road to speed up to match the flow of traffic.. Junhyung Lee. The acceleration and deceleration rates are crucial road design reference values in terms of traffic safety. The purpose of acceleration and deceleration lanes is to reduce the speed.
